Attached to the descending colon proximal to the lesion, the Retrowash is designed to facilitate a RETROGRADE washout via the insertion of an irrigation catheter through a valve in the handpiece. The catheter is advanced proximally along the colon back toward the caecum, irrigating in 200ml bursts. Waste drains into an integral waste receptacle which can be detached and resealed for hygienic disposal.
A washout with the Retrowash takes 10-15 minutes and a second incision at the appendix is avoided.
